It’s never a big surprise when technology changes, but sometimes it takes us a minute to react.

Okay, maybe more like a few months.

Well, change is coming!  On July 9, 2019, Microsoft is ending support for SQL Server 2008 R2. Windows Server 2012 and 2016 aren’t far behind, coming to a gradual close in the next 3-4 years.

Where does this leave your EHR?

Don’t panic and don’t just react.  Instead let us help you plan for the change.

Fortunately, Microsoft does provide a viable, proactive solution for your practice.  Their Azure platform is the newest and most innovative cloud-computing solution available –  used by 95% of Fortune 500 companies. There are many ways to ensure streamlined, simple, and safe data migration to the cloud, and we can prove it!  As a Microsoft certified provider, our Focus Solutions team is well-versed at helping practices like yours make the switch.

Here are three things to consider as you contemplate your next steps…

  1. Security

Without managed support available to older Microsoft servers, access to critical security updates will come to an end. This opens the potential for threats, viruses, and data breaches. Microsoft Azure makes data security and mining prevention one of their critical focuses, offering both of the essential elements of data security.

  1. Compliance

As support for servers ends, businesses may unknowingly fail to meet government-mandated compliance standards and industry regulations.  Microsoft Azure adds more than 70 compliance offerings through their cloud system alone – making it #1 in the industry. Your patients don’t want you to put their data at risk, and neither do we!

  1. Innovation

It’s a well-known fact that leaders who embrace digital transformation outperform competitors. That’s just how the cookie (or data) crumbles! In addition to being a great host for your EHR, Microsoft Azure seamlessly integrates all services – including Office 365, Outlook, and Sharepoint – to make detailed work and process integration a breeze. We know that your systems, and data they consume and produce, are critical to the success of your practice.  And, while we’re on the soapbox, please remember, big data starts with small questions!

Moving forward into 2019, we know there are a lot of decisions you’ll need to make to find a new home for your data. Big surprises take time to react to. But you’re not alone.
