Changes are coming to the healthcare technology landscape and options exist beyond your current ecosystem. Our objective is to keep you aware and help you prepare.

Focus Solutions, a physician owned technology company, helps practices like yours better navigate an ever-changing EHR landscape. Our team has 75+ years experience working with and supporting hundreds of physicians’ offices using Prime Suite, and we extend that experience to help inform you of what the future may hold for you and your practice. Our objective is to keep you aware and help you prepare.

With that in my mind, here are our current recommendations…

1 – Cooler heads prevail… Remain on the Prime Suite platform.

There is no need to jump and make an EHR change right now. A quick reaction may cause unnecessary pain for your practice. We prefer that you remain where you are and observe what options develop in the months ahead.

This time will also allow Greenway to further develop and share their vision for Project Polaris. The more you learn, the more informed you will be in deciding if this new application is a good fit for your practice.

Our team will be here to keep you updated and share our insights.

2 – Address the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 support issue.

Prime Suite aside, the fact remains, Microsoft is ending support for SQL Server 2008 R2 on July 9, 2019. This development will require many practices to establish a replacement strategy. Microsoft recommends “creating a plan of action sooner rather than later” and we agree. In doing so, you set yourself up to fully understand the technical tradeoffs of each option, and the downstream financial and contractual implications they have. Planning now ensures that you are able to make the best possible short- and long-term choices for your practice.

As a Microsoft Certified Partner, we have a direct connection with this powerhouse provider. What does that have to do with SQL Server 2008 R2 no longer being supported? Better yet, what does that mean to you? It means we have a deep understanding of the choices you have for finding a reliable server to host your electronic health records (EHR) platform.

Our PHYSICIAN owned team has implemented and provided technical and application supported hundreds of EHR systems over the years and. Drawing from that experience and our vast knowledge of the current EHR market space, we feel that the single most important consideration from an IT perspective is to solve the SQL Server 2008 support problem in a way that does not lock you into long-term contracts, force a premature EHR platform transition or exhaust tremendous amounts of up-front capital.

3 – Plan for the future, but support your business today. Identify gaps and fill them.

Are there limitations with your current EHR platform that cause a glaring pain point or inefficiency in your practice? The answer is probably yes, but the reality of the situation is that there is no EHR platform out there that is perfect. If your practice is experiencing some of these pain points don’t assume that you just need to accept them –short-term or long-term.

Chances are good that another technology solution can be deployed to complement your EHR and alleviate the shortcoming. We encourage you to identify such gaps and lean on our team for idea exploration. We thrive on finding solutions to help your practice maximize its EHR investment.
